A Look at “Lone Soldiers” in the IDF

This 12-minute “documentary is about Lone Soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces.

A lone soldier is a person from outside of Israel who volunteers to serve in the army and has no family with them in Israel.  We chose this topic because the lone soldier program is something unique to the IDF.  While filming this documentary, we had the privilege of speaking with many different people who were lone soldiers or are connected to lone soldiers, and although they each had unique, interesting stories, every single one said the same thing; it was the best experience of their lives and they would gladly do it again.  We wanted to explore what makes the experience so amazing, and what motivates people to leave their homes and move half way around the world to serve in an army.”
